Turkey; a dominantly Muslim country of 70 plus million population. Non-Muslim minorities form only less than 1% of the total population. Though recent E.U. accession talks have resulted in significant legal improvements of the rights of religios minorities and Turkish Constitution and Penal Code grants freedom of religion in allignment with international covenants Turkey is a party to, minorities often point to lack of their implementation. There is a growing social pressure against non-Muslim minorities, especially Christians. Throughout 2006 and 2007, one Roman Catholic Priest and three Protestant evangelists were killed and churches were attacked.
